The National Hockey League (NHL) team the Dallas Stars is based out of Dallas, Texas. The team plays in the Western Conference's Pacific Division. The franchise was originally the Minnesota North Stars and based out of Bloomington, Minnesota as part of the NHL's 1967 expansion. In 1993, the team moved to Dallas and first played there for the NHL's 1993-1994 season. The team played their games at Reunion Arena until 2001. Since then the Stars have played at American Airlines Center.

The Stars, since moving to Dallas, won the Stanley Cup in 1999, won two Western Conference championships, two President's Trophies and seven division titles. In 1998-99, Joe Nieuwendyk also was named as that year's most valuable player in the playoffs and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Neal Broten became a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000. Brett Hull in 2009 became the first player from the Dallas Stars to become a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 2011 he was joined by Joe Nieuwendyk and Ed Belfour. In 2010, brothers Kevin and Derian Hatcher became members of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
